So here are the news about Echo festival 2013, including line up, accommodation and more…
Thursday 6th – Monday 10th June 2013, Kanegra, Istria, Croatia.
Echo is an intimate festival showcasing some of the best names and emerging talents in electronic music, all set against the elegant landscape of the Adriatic coast of Croatia.
Walking through the pine forests of their new home, located in the region of Istria, Echo site rolls gently down to Kanegra beach and the crystal clear Adriatic Sea. Kanegra combines different terrains and elements to form a unique festival location, and the three different stages will host a selection of quality artists over four days.
Echo’s personal vibe and friendly feel has gained a great support from guests and artists alike. In 2013, Echo brings more of that festival charm to Croatia.
Electronic music can be an introspective pursuit for many of it’s players; whilst the fans and audiences are moved by the rhythmic and fluid output of club sound systems, there is a often a contradiction in the god-like presence of the Producer spinning the tracks at the front. Dance music is an art of delicacy and of precision, and the levels of detailed production that we see in music today demand an obsessive commitment. Maybe it is this obsessive commitment that creates such an array of interesting individuals.
Space Dimension Controller is one of those eccentric producers that we’re talking about. SDC’s music is “a sort of electro-funk-housey-techno thing.” – SDC in FACT interview 2010, but his producing roots reveal an ambient past, a past that he carries with him throughout his music. His analogue productions have blazed an absolutely unique trail through the UK scene, and he comes to symbolise what we do best.
What stands British electronic music apart from other scenes across Europe is our seemingly short attention span; seldom allowing two tracks to develop and fully merge alongside one another, DJs will mix hard and fast with tunes dropping in and out. SDC reflects this in his music, rarely allowing a phrase to repeat itself over more than 4 bars. This incessant development is what takes SDC to a different place; his productions de-construct and re-construct what has been played before in a more complex composition. Whereas this evolutionary process could lead in to the obscure, or in to IDM focussing too heavily on the I, SDC’s ambient roots always locate his music in the ethereal – or, as he would say, in space.
SDC holds his position as an artist constant; rarely peaking from behind his moniker, he considers his music, and most importantly his live show as a whole performance. He even conducts his interviews in character, and aims to embody him on stage. ‘Welcome To Mikrosector-50’ is Space Dimension Controller’s first full album; it is one-of-a-kind stuff – a fully developed concept.
“Streaking through the ether at twice the speed of sound, Mr 8040 is on a date with destiny. He’s heading for Mikrosector-50, his home planet, but things are not going as smoothly as planned. En route he finds himself in sticky situations, cosmic encounters that trigger flashbacks to a different time and place. Will he ever make it home? And who – or what – is he running from?”
And it is just as cinematic as it sounds…
We’re delighted to finally reveal the second wave of artists for Echo Festival 2013. They include the former first lady of M_nus, a driving force behind twenty-first century Techno, and a trio of some of the world’s most remarkable Live performance DJs.
Magda is an artist who can never be pinned down, no matter the timeframe or time signature. Any one of the Detroit-raised artist’s sets or productions breeds a rare feel of mystique and discovery. The former first lady of Richie Hawtin’s M_nus label, she is now one of the driving forces behind the Berlin imprint Items & Things alongside Marc Houle and Troy Pierce. Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition – creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analogue and digital technology.
We would tell you all about Redshape, but we don’t know who he actually is. He hides his real identity behind a red mask at all times, even wearing it onstage at his club dates around Europe, which of late there have been many. We do know the man behind the mask lives in Berlin, he does a rocking live act and he’s released half a dozen tracks over the last year or so on labels such as Delsin and Music Man. We also can reveal he has studied a lot of old Detroit techno records: His sound is a new update on old school templates, and it’s getting a thorough rinsing by DJs as diverse as Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Âme and Cassy.
John Roberts creates music that is meticulous and loose, evocative and innovative. Raised in the so-called heart of America, John’s parents exposed him to classical music at an early age and encouraged his fifteen-year training on drums and violin. As he began to gain interest in contemporary European house and techno, John began working with analog synthesizers, antiquated sequencing software, and reel-to-reel tape machines. In 2008 Roberts was asked by Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince, and Lawrence to be the first American artist on their influential Dial Records imprint. The 2010 release of his debut album, ‘Glass Eights’, cemented his position as one of electronic music’s top innovators. 2013 will see the release of his second album, ‘Fences’.
Audio Werner has made a great contribution to underground electronic music not only as a producer and DJ, but as a live performer. During the past year he has been concentrating on his new live set which he performed for the first time at ‘Get Perlonized’ at Panorama Bar in November 2012 proving to be a huge success.

Ever since releasing his critically acclaimed debut on Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint, it has been nothing but exponential growth for the innovative beat maker. Support has come across the board from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Mosca Disclosure, whilst also featuring on tINI’s Resident Advisor mix late last year.
With musical influences right across the spectrum of electronic music, this mix features tracks by Youandewan, Egal 3, Boddika, Smallpeople and Djrum. Broadly put Lakosa is a house Dj/producer per say, but the complex stylings of his music ensure that his sets always deliver much much more. Catch him performing on the Well Rounded Records showcase at Echo.
